Final call for May intake for 1368 Sqn

1368 (Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa) Squadron tends to do intakes at the beginning of each school term, hence we are doing a small intake in May 2025. 


Procedure for recruitment is based on the following steps:

1. Expression of interest submitted via RAFAC webform: https://www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets/interested-in-joining-as-a-cadet/?squadronno=1368. This gives us the details we need to email or phone parent/guardians to arrange a tour.

2. Parent/guardian responds to tour request and visit date/time for tour is arranged.

3. Parent/guardian & prospective cadet attend a show around tour, followed by a chat with OC. Tour is usually done by a cadet and gives an opportunity to find out what it is like being a cadet at 1368 Sqn.

4. If still interested after tour then we would add to desired intake list.

5. Closer to the intake date, forms are sent out electronically with a welcome pack. Parent/guardians return forms electronically and date/time of first parade is confirmed. Information from forms is used to create cadet account prior to first night as a cadet.

6. New intake does an induction programme in civvies. If they still want to continue after this then they graduate and we issue uniform(s).

Last week, the cadets did some drill practice, partly in readiness for parades that are coming up, partly to give new prospective NCOs some experience "at the front" and also to sharpen up Squadron discipline. Drill is a powerful aid to discipline. It develops a sense of corporate pride, alertness, precision and readiness to obey orders instantly. Good drill in aircraft is directly fostered by the habit of drilling smartly on parade. Thus, smartness on parade is not only a sign of good discipline, but a basic factor in raising the standard of performance in duties. Back in the (really) old days, the Air Cadets used to have its own Air Cadet drill manual. Nowadays this is all gone. The RAFAC aligns wholly to the RAF Drill manual called AP818 . DofE Enrolment Form link now in the Forms list

DofE enrolment: An  .doc enrolment form  or PDF  (link to form with some pre-filled info for Sqn) must be completed on first enrolment to eDofE. 1368 Sqn is passionate about the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The DofE is open to young people and has 3 levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold.  Participants complete activities at each level over set periods in each of 4 sections - Volunteering, Expeditions, Skills, Physical; for Gold only, a Residential is added as a fifth section. For the Participant: The DofE is understood by those outside of the ATC. There is a greater expectation of involvement by the cadet in the planning stage of their DofE experience than in standard cadet syllabus, thus accelerating the process of personal development. The ATC syllabus offers an almost ‘off-the-shelf’ programme to gain an Award and there are ample opportunities for cadets and young volunteer staff to gain Awards by their work within the Corps. 17 Basic Swimming Competence Test successes today

Well done to the 17 or so cadets that achieved their Basic Swim test today. Bravo. That means you can partake in 1368 Kayaking mayhem, should you wish. BASIC SWIMMING COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE FOR AIR CADETS To qualify for this certificate personnel are required to demonstrate Swimming Competence as follows: Swim 50 metres without rest, using any recognised single swimming stroke Remain afloat for 2 minutes in a restricted area of water, with a maximum radius of 2 metres Exit the pool at a point where the candidate is out of depth without an aid. However, in locations where there is a considerable distance between the water and poolside, as found in some service pools, some assistance may be given at the examiner’s discretion. All elements of the demonstration are to be performed consecutively in the order shown above, in standard swimwear.
