VIVO Defence contract started Aug 2024

We welcome VIVO defence, a 50:50 joint venture between Serco and EQUANS, objectives which were a result of them taking over maintenance of cadet buildings in Aug 2024:

  • A move from the current ‘fix on fail’ approach to preventative maintenance and evidence based investment decisions.
  • Adoption of industry best practice maintenance standards.
  • An improvement in Health and Safety compliance.
  • A higher level of investment in the maintenance of the Volunteer Estate.
  • Improved Information Technology to inform and manage Facilities Management on the Volunteer Estate to ensure investment decisions are more data driven.

Last week, the cadets did some drill practice, partly in readiness for parades that are coming up, partly to give new prospective NCOs some experience "at the front" and also to sharpen up Squadron discipline. Drill is a powerful aid to discipline. It develops a sense of corporate pride, alertness, precision and readiness to obey orders instantly. Good drill in aircraft is directly fostered by the habit of drilling smartly on parade. Thus, smartness on parade is not only a sign of good discipline, but a basic factor in raising the standard of performance in duties. Back in the (really) old days, the Air Cadets used to have its own Air Cadet drill manual. Nowadays this is all gone. The RAFAC aligns wholly to the RAF Drill manual called AP818 . 17 Basic Swimming Competence Test successes today

Well done to the 17 or so cadets that achieved their Basic Swim test today. Bravo. That means you can partake in 1368 Kayaking mayhem, should you wish. BASIC SWIMMING COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE FOR AIR CADETS To qualify for this certificate personnel are required to demonstrate Swimming Competence as follows: Swim 50 metres without rest, using any recognised single swimming stroke Remain afloat for 2 minutes in a restricted area of water, with a maximum radius of 2 metres Exit the pool at a point where the candidate is out of depth without an aid. However, in locations where there is a considerable distance between the water and poolside, as found in some service pools, some assistance may be given at the examiner’s discretion. All elements of the demonstration are to be performed consecutively in the order shown above, in standard swimwear. What are TG Forms and where to get them?

TG Forms is the term we use to refer to Activity-related Parent/Guardian Consent Forms. From a cadet perspective they include: - TG Form 021 : Activity Consent Form – Cadet. - TG Form 023 : Health Declaration Form There is also a TG Form 022: Activity Consent Form - Staff. The best place to find these forms for completion is via the main  https://www.bader.mod.uk/  landing page. Look for the Useful Resources section.  TG Forms are date-specific consents and require doing for each event where requested. Some parents will download the Word document and complete information that does not change once, and then print/sign with event specific details/dates, although when design this it's important to check the emergency contact details are correct for the period. It's not possible to accept these electronically at the moment, hence a wet signature version is expected, even if the rest of the details are typed in.
