1368 Annual Prize Giving at Norton Lindsay Village Hall, 1 Dec 202

This Monday parade night saw cadets and staff welcome the OC Wing and Wing Staff Officers to our annual prize giving and enrolment ceremony. 

Big thanks to cadets for preparing their presentations and being prepared to stand up and speak about their things they've done in the last year (incl. a couple of short notice additions), staff for standing in the rain sorting parking, and civ comm & helpers. Some feedback from Wing Staff included:

It was an exceptionally rewarding experience, not just because of the event itself, but also due to the outstanding content you provided.... the evening was a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved. AP818 - RAF Drill and Ceremonial Manual for Air Cadets

Last week, the cadets did some drill practice, partly in readiness for parades that are coming up, partly to give new prospective NCOs some experience "at the front" and also to sharpen up Squadron discipline. Drill is a powerful aid to discipline. It develops a sense of corporate pride, alertness, precision and readiness to obey orders instantly. Good drill in aircraft is directly fostered by the habit of drilling smartly on parade. Thus, smartness on parade is not only a sign of good discipline, but a basic factor in raising the standard of performance in duties. Back in the (really) old days, the Air Cadets used to have its own Air Cadet drill manual. Nowadays this is all gone. The RAFAC aligns wholly to the RAF Drill manual called AP818 . Wearing poppy's with RAF Air Cadet blues and MTP uniforms

Air Cadets wear poppy's with their uniform in the lead up to the Remembrance Parades each year. This information was taken from the 20231026-RAFAC_Poppy_With_Pride_Poster_SCO_V5-O.pdf From: The onset of sales each year. Until: The end of national and local observation of remembrance. Always: On remembrance parades/events by all RAFAC personnel involved. Never: Worn with flying clothing, GPJ, wet weather clothing or on head dress. For ceremonial dress and parades the conventional paper poppy is to be worn. On working dress and combat uniform a plain enamel poppy badge not exceeding 2.5cm (1”) may be worn. The plain enamel badge may be worn with Mess dress at the discretion of the PMC or CMC. When worn it is to be positioned immediately above the right breast pocket (preferably inserted in the button hole) of the No 1 SD jacket and in the corresponding position on female jackets, No2, No3 and Mess dress. 17 Basic Swimming Competence Test successes today

Well done to the 17 or so cadets that achieved their Basic Swim test today. Bravo. That means you can partake in 1368 Kayaking mayhem, should you wish. BASIC SWIMMING COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE FOR AIR CADETS To qualify for this certificate personnel are required to demonstrate Swimming Competence as follows: Swim 50 metres without rest, using any recognised single swimming stroke Remain afloat for 2 minutes in a restricted area of water, with a maximum radius of 2 metres Exit the pool at a point where the candidate is out of depth without an aid. However, in locations where there is a considerable distance between the water and poolside, as found in some service pools, some assistance may be given at the examiner’s discretion. All elements of the demonstration are to be performed consecutively in the order shown above, in standard swimwear.
